At a glance

  • A fixed price agreed when you book, with no surge on a busy summer weekend.
  • Child seats bookable on request, subject to the Cab operator carrying them.
  • Airport pickups include 45 minutes free waiting and Meet and Greet inside the terminal.
  • Book a single trip, a return, or a wait-and-return, up to 12 months ahead.

Why pre-book a taxi for a family day out or holiday

Family days out or catching your holiday flight can be stressful. Pre-booking your cab means one less thing to worry about. The price is agreed up front, your Cab operator is expecting your family and luggage, and your car is held for your chosen pickup date and time. No scramble for a ride at the end of a long day with tired children: just pile in and head home.

On a busy summer Saturday, cab prices can climb with demand, exactly when you least need a surprise. Not with minicabit. The price you select when booking is locked in, so there are no surprises later. Our comparison technology instantly compares quotes from 1,000+ licensed Private Hire Operators near both ends of your trip, so you can select the widest choice of cab providers by price, vehicle type or reviews, whichever matters most to your family.

A door-to-door minicab also cuts out the usual travel hassles: no costly parking, no shuttle buses, no station walks with tired children and buggies in tow. You are collected from your doorstep and delivered straight to your destination, with space for the whole family and everything you need, all in one vehicle.

Taxis to the theme parks

A pre-booked minicab drops your family right at the theme-park entrance and is there to bring you home. No car left in the car park and no dash to catch the last shuttle at closing time. Add child seats on request, have the right size vehicle presented for the buggy and bags, and agree the fare before you travel.

Guides to the big parks often steer you towards on-site parking or other travel options. When you factor in the buggy, the bags and the children, a door-to-door minicab is the more family-friendly choice – dropped at the gate in the morning and collected at the time you set. Where a park sits well outside the main ride-hailing footprint, a pre-booked Cab operator is also the more dependable option than hoping to find a car on the day.

Taxis to the airport for the family holiday

Travelling to the airport with the family? Your pre-booked minicab will collect you from your door with room for everyone and all the cases. For airport pickups, a ‘Meet and Greet’ service is included where your Cab operator waits inside the terminal for 45 minutes and tracks the flight – arriving 30 minutes after the new landing time if it is delayed.

The Cab operator works to the cab pickup time you set, so you can plan the outbound leg around your check-in and the return around your Meet and Greet. Add child seats on request, tell us your luggage when you book so the system can help size the car, and the fare is fixed before you travel.

Some verified “from” fares for popular airport-to-destination family routes, useful if you are flying in and heading straight to a park or resort town:

Route From Approx. journey time
Heathrow to Windsor (Legoland) £40 1 hr 10 mins – 1 hr 50 mins
Heathrow to Staines (Thorpe Park) £40 1 hr 5 mins – 1 hr 40 mins
Birmingham to Tamworth (Drayton Manor) £55 18 – 26 mins
Birmingham to Warwick (Warwick Castle) £54 22 – 30 mins
Manchester to Blackpool (Pleasure Beach) £105 55 mins – 1 hr 15 mins
Heathrow to Southampton (Paultons Park) £106 2 hrs 10 mins – 2 hrs 50 mins
Heathrow to Bournemouth (coast) £147 2 hrs 35 mins – 3 hrs 20 mins

These are airport-to-town “from” fares, not park-gate prices. The exact fare for your party and luggage is confirmed by the live quote when you book. Price last updated on 1st May 2026, average taken between March 2026 and April 2026.

Days out, and coastal or countryside trips

A minicab is just as handy for a fun day out as for a theme park – a beach afternoon, a walk in the country or a  day spent exploring a city, no car to park at the other end. One car, door to door, with space for everyone,  and a return pick-up when you’re ready to head home.

Popular days-out destinations to book from include Bournemouth, Torquay and Newquay on the coast, and York for a city day. Choose a vehicle with room for the pram, the picnic and the beach kit, and add child seats on request.

Choosing the right vehicle for a family plus kit

Choose the car by how many of you there are and how much you are carrying. When you book, you can specify your exact luggage items – suitcases, a buggy, a folded wheelchair, beach or camping kit – and the system can help work out the right size of car:

  • Saloon (Standard) – up to 3 passengers with luggage; a couple with one child travelling light.
  • Estate – the extra boot space for a buggy and bags.
  • MPV / people carrier – up to 6 passengers; a family with a buggy, bags and kit.
  • 8-passenger Mercedes Viano or a minibus – larger or extended-family groups travelling together.

Executive cars and Wheelchair-Accessible Vehicles are also bookable where you need them – select the tier that suits your party when you compare quotes.

Child seats

Many of our Private Hire Operators carry a range of child seats suitable for different ages. Just add a child seat when you book and the request goes straight to the Cab operator. Because availability is subject to what the Cab operator carries, it is worth booking early for a busy summer date and letting us know the number and ages of your children so everything is arranged perfectly in advance.

Returns, wait-and-return and stops

Book a single trip, a return, or a wait-and-return in one seamless booking. A return is perfect for a day out. Set both legs when you book – dropped at the entrance in the morning and collected at your chosen time. Split returns can be arranged up to 12 months apart, with the same or different Private Hire Operators.

For shorter visits, a wait-and-return keeps your Cab operator for up to 20 minutes close by to bring you back when you’re ready. If you’d like a quick stop or have specific instructions, include them in the additional-information field when booking so it reaches the Cab operator, subject to availability.

Waiting times

Airport pickups include 45 minutes’ free waiting time and Meet and Greet inside the terminal. All other pickups, including airport drop-offs and home pickups, include 15 minutes’ free waiting time – enough to get everyone and their bags into the car, hassle-free.

Changing or cancelling your booking

Free cancellation through minicabit applies before the booking’s cancellation cut-off time, shown clearly at booking. If you need to change your cab pickup time – because the day ran long, say – you can update it online or, as a last resort, contact minicabit 24/7 by live chat, phone and email. Always make changes through minicabit, not the Cab operator.

How to save on a family trip

  • Book early – the best summer fares tend to go to those who plan ahead, and you can book up to 12 months in advance.
  • Instantly compare quotes and select by price, vehicle type and reviews.
  • Look out for Flash Sales – a short-term discount from a Cab operator (for example 10% or £5 off), shown on the results page next to the quote.
  • Travel together in one larger vehicle rather than splitting the family across separate cars.

Family days-out taxi FAQs

Can I book a taxi with a child seat?

Many of our Private Hire Operators carry a range of child seats suitable for different ages. Add a child seat when you book and the request goes to the Cab operator; availability and cost (typically £5 if charged) is subject to the Cab operator carrying them, so book early for a busy summer date.

Will one taxi fit the whole family, the buggy and the bags?

Usually, yes – choose an estate or an MPV for most families, or an 8-passenger Mercedes Viano or a minibus for larger groups. Tell us your exact luggage when you book and the system can help work out the right size of car.

Can I be dropped at the theme-park entrance and collected later?

Yes. Book a return and set both legs when you book – dropped at the entrance in the morning and collected at the time you choose – or a wait-and-return, where the same Cab operator waits and brings you back.

What if our day runs late and we want a later pickup?

Update your Cab pickup time online, or contact minicabit 24/7 by live chat, phone and email. Always make changes through minicabit, not the Cab operator.

Is the price fixed, or will it surge on a busy summer Saturday?

The price is fixed when you book – the quote you select is the price you pay, with no surge on a busy weekend.

We are flying home – how long will the Cab operator wait at the airport?

Airport pickups include 45 minutes’ free waiting time and Meet and Greet inside the terminal. The Cab operator tracks the flight and arrives 30 minutes after the new landing time if it is delayed.

How far ahead can I book?

Up to 12 months ahead. For peak summer dates and popular parks, booking early helps you secure the fare and the vehicle you want.

What if I need to cancel?

Free cancellation applies before the booking’s cancellation cut-off time, shown clearly at booking. Cancel or change through minicabit, not the Cab operator.
